Classroom Technology Instructions GSEIS 111

GSE&IS Room 111 is equipped with a projector and speakers that can be controlled from the podium. The podium has a built-in Mac Mini that boots into OSX or Windows. The podium also has cables to project from laptops or other devices. 

Powering On: On the podium button panel, press PROJ ON to turn projector on and lower the screen.

Powering Off: Press PROJ OFF. PROJ OFF button will flash until system is off. DO NOT power on again until light is steady.

Choose a method to display:

To project from the built-in computer:

  1. Power system on: On the podium button panel, press PROJ ON to turn projector on and lower the screen.
  2. If monitor is black, press power button on monitor and press the black Computer Power button on the rack in the cabinet.
  3. If computer is logged out, click on the OSX or Windows icon to log in.
  4. On button panel, press PC

To use a USB drive, insert into the USB port in the rack in the cabinet

 

To project from a laptop using built-in cables:

  1. Connect the VGA + audio cable or HDMI cable to your laptop and press the corresponding button on the podium button panel.

 

To project wirelessly from an Apple laptop (using Airplay)

  1. Power system on: On the podium button panel, press PROJ ON to turn projector on and lower the screen.
  2. On the podium button panel, press Apple TV.
  3. Using the silver Apple remote, press Menu to display the Apple TV home screen.
  4. On your laptop, connect to the EDUROAM wireless network and log in using your UCLA Logon ID.
  5. Click the AirPlay icon in your top menu bar and choose GSEIS111  

To project wirelessly from an iOS device (using Airplay)

  1. Power system on: On the podium button panel, press PROJ ON to turn projector on and lower the screen.
  2. On the podium button panel, press Apple TV.
  3. Using the silver Apple remote, press Menu to display the AppleTV home screen.
  4. On your device, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to access Control Center.
  5. Tap AirPlay. Then tap your device at the top of the AirPlay list

 

Troubleshooting Tips

 

Podium computer not responsive? Check:

  1. Power button on the monitor should be lit
  2. Press Computer Power button on the rack in the cabinet

Podium Computer or laptop not projecting? Check:

  1. AV ON button on podium panel should be lit steady orange.
  2. If AV OFF button is flashing, wait 2-3 minutes until steady and press AV ON
  3. AV MUTE button should be off. If flashing, press to turn off

No sound? Check:

  1. AUDIO MUTE button should be off. If flashing, press to turn off.
  2. In button panel, lights next to the Volume knob should be lit
  3. Check audio levels and output settings on the computer or laptop.
  4. On rack in cabinet, lights next to the volume Volume knob should be up

Button panel completely dark or unresponsive? Check:

  1. Rocker power switch on the lower right side of the rack in the cabinet should be flipped to on.
