ETU Supported Hardware

GSE&IS ETU Supported Hardware Policy

The following is a list of computer hardware purchased by GSE&IS and supported and maintained by ETU. Note: Only hardware purchased through ETU with school funds will be supported by ETU. Hardware purchased with personal or extramural funds must be paid for by the individual or through a grant, and will be supported by ETU only if it complies with the standard sets of hardware purchased by ETU.

Attention: Faculty and Research groups: Please do not order by yourself. Contact ETU before taking any other action. Any purchases not made through ETU cannot be guaranteed of support.

  

GSE&IS Supported Macintosh Hardware

New Hardware:

The current Intel-based Macintosh line is supported, including:

  • iMac
  • Mac Pro Tower
  • MacBook Pro
  • MacBook
  • MacBook Air
  • Mac mini

The systems should contain at minimum the following:

  • 4 GB of RAM
  • 250 GB Hard Drive

Legacy Hardware (hardware purchased before 3/1/09):

ETU currently supports all Macintosh computers with G5 processors or newer purchased with School Funds for use in Moore Hall or the GSE&IS Building. Repairs and upgrades to hardware purchased with personal or extramural funds must be paid for by the individual or through a grant.

 

GSE&IS Supported Windows Hardware 

Desktop models:

  • Dell Optiplex 3010 Small Form Factor

All multi-user desktops will be downgraded to Windows XP Pro SP3. Single-user desktops will run Windows 7 Pro SP1 (Windows 8 not supported). 

Laptop models:

  • Lenovo Thinkpad X230 (12.5-inch)
  • Lenovo Thinkpad T430s (14-inch)
  • Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon (14-inch ultrabook/ultra-thin)

All laptops will be single-user and will run Windows 7 Pro SP1 (Windows 8 not supported).
